LETTER
Hi Karla
Could you be
so kind to email all the information you have regarding the benefits of flaxseed
against Breast Cancer.
FLAXSEED
AND CANCER"OUS" CELLS
Thank you so much for sending me this information about your friend. I have been researching this topic for quite some time now. I can only share with you - what I have learned. I have lately heard so many "personal stories" about flaxseed health and healing properties on cancer victims.
Firstly, if she is having Chemo - which is basically a toxic doses of cell-killing drugs - then she should try the flaxseed as a strong - antioxidant.
Secondly - if she IS NOT - on a synthetic hormone replacement - then she should try the natural hormones in flaxseeds - very rich - really helps the human system balance out.
To make a simple explanation - flaxseed works on cells. When cells get "sluggish" due to a million reasons - food, fats, environment, stress, too much estrogen - etc... then they can't breath. When they can't breath, they get toxic and infected. The key is keep your cells healthy and that is the job of flaxseeds.
SEEDS keep the balance of
"every living thing!"
It all works on a cellular level - right :)

RESEARCH NOTES:
Lignans have a structure that is similar to that of human estrogen. That is why
they also are called phytoestrogens (plant estrogens). Although lignans have a
weak estrogenic effect (much weaker than human estrogens), they can help balance
hormone levels in the body. A shortage of estrogen is supplemented by lignans.
However, if you have a surplus of estrogens, the weak lignans can replace the
strong human estrogen. This will result in a healthy balance.

RESEARCH NOTES:
Flaxseed’s role as the "nutraceutical food of the 21st century" is
enhanced by its potential effect on breast and colon cancer prevention,
according to Dr. Lilian Thompson, Professor, Department of Nutritional Sciences,
Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. Dr. Thompson was part of the
symposium "Flaxseed in Human Nutrition" at the 16th International
Congress of Nutrition in Montreal in July 1997. Dr. Thompson presented data on
flaxseed and its effect on breast and colon cancer prevention. Flaxseed is the
richest plant source of lignan precursors — important because the lignans that
mammals produce from this food precursor have been shown to be protective
against breast and colon cancer. In animal studies, Dr. Thompson found that
flaxseed affects all three stages of cancer development — initiation, tumour
development and tumor growth and spread. "Human studies are needed to
confirm, but flaxseed has tremendous potential to positively affect our
health," Dr. Thompson said. (GAIA RESEARCH - http://www.gaiaresearch.co.za/flaxseed.html

Flaxseed contains Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), a potent antioxidant and a known precursor of the mammalian lignans, enterolactone and enterodiol. These compounds have other pharmacological properties including phytoestrogen properties similar to isoflavones. Studies performed in the Department of Physiology, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, have shown that SDG prevents the development of hypercholesterolemic atherosclerosis, reduces total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, and has a tendency to raise HDL-cholesterol in animal models. In addition, SDG has shown the ability to lower blood pressure, and has demonstrated that it is effective in preventing diabetes mellitus (Type I and Type II) and endotoxic shock.
