LETTER
Karla,
For over two years now, I have had real problems with swollen ankles and in the
evenings my legs would hurt as they would swell too.... NOTHING worked either
orthodox or alternate, except to get me running to the loo 24/7, so imagine how
DELIGHTED I am that after the FIRST dose of Flaxseed with orange juice (freshly
squeezed) my legs and ankles are back to normal.... my ankle bones are showing
again and I have no pain. Not once has the old routine returned and I am
ecstatic.
Thanks
for introducing me to the flaxseed wonder food!!! I LOVE it!!!
Take
care
Violet King
FLUID
RETENTION
Thank
you so much for your letter about swollen ankles. You might want to try mixing
your milled flaxseed with cranberry juice as an extra “push” towards
relieving your body of excess water.
Fluid
retention, or edema, accompanies swollen ankles, some forms of obesity, PMS, and
all stages of cancer and cardiovascular disease, is an excess of water in the
body’s tissues. It occurs when fluid that normally circulates in blood vessels
and lymph ducts is diverted into the tiny channels between cells, called
interstitial spaces. This makes the tissue swell.
Flaxseed
is one of the richest sources of phytoestrogenic lignans. By binding to estrogen
receptors and interfering with enzymes that convert various hormones to
estrogen, flaxseed may help control estrogen dominance and the resulting water
retention and weight gain.
Many midlife women report that the flaxseed and GLA components of the plant act
as natural hormone therapy, reducing hot flashes, mood swings, sleep
disturbances and tissue dryness without the side effect of fat-promoting
synthetic estrogens and progestins.
According
to B.A. Stoll, a high-fiber diet reduces recirculating estrogen by binding to
excess estrogen and carrying it out of the body. The
LNA and LA fatty acids in flaxseed helps the kidneys excrete sodium and water.
